This is the SSAT/HSPT Vocabulary/Reading test preparation class for Middle school students to prepare Private High school entry tests, The class is also emphasis the comprehensive Reading and Vocabulary skills for Level 7/8. We will learn through the test skills and tips by practice tests for each section.
The SSAT score is required by OES, Catlin Cable high school application or it can be used to qualify the talented search program such as Johns Hopkins for talented youth https://cty.jhu.edu/. SSAT tests usually are hosted by some local schools like OES, Catlin Cable. The tests are usually offered in December, January, and February.
The HSPT test is similar to the SSAT test, which is used by the Christian High schools like Jesuit, St. Mary, or Valley Catholic. HSPT test is usually offered in January by the private school like Jesuit.
The class is designed with a one-year curriculum for Grade 7-8 students:
Fall term: We will use the "Wordly Wise Book 8" to build up students' vocabulary for the standard test verbal skills. The "SSAT Reading/Writing Skills" will be used to refine the reading skills for the SSAT/HSPT tests.
We will use the SSAT/HSPT online practice tests for practice and mock the real tests. All materials will be provided via the Class Page in students' Sunshine account.
Winter/Spring term: We will use "Wordly Wise Book 7" for expanding students' vocabulary with a comprehensive reading context. The "Reading Detective B1" will be used to build the comprehensive reading skills with high quality texts. The SSAT reading/writing skills and practic tests will be included in this class too.
